Bit Night at Swedish Equestrian – Nerdiness, Fika, and Love for Horses
One of our most appreciated private events right now is our bit night – an evening for everyone who loves horses, wants to understand their bits better, and at the same time have a really nice time together in our equestrian shop.
Since September, we have had several bit nights in the store, and the response has been fantastic. There is a lot of laughter, a lot of nerding about bits and horse welfare, many wise questions – and often quite a few aha moments.

Why a Bit Night?
When we meet our customers – both in-store and online – there is primarily one area that comes up time and again: bits. Bits are often perceived as a real jungle, while the choice of bit is one of our greatest responsibilities as horse owners and riders.
We sometimes see horses with scars in their mouths or teeth that have shifted due to incorrect bits or ignorant use by previous owners. In most cases, it is not about malice, but about a lack of knowledge and guidance.
That's why our bit nights exist. We want to:
-
help you understand how different bits work
-
give you better conditions to make the right choice
-
enhance the well-being of horses around Sweden – and hopefully soon throughout Europe
So what is a bit, really?
We usually land on a common starting point: the bit is a communication tool between rider and horse – together with seat, leg, and voice. When communication becomes clearer and softer, riding and the horse's experience also improve.
From Jungle to “Basic Basic”
During the bit night, we go through the basics of bits in a pedagogical and concrete way, whether you are a beginner, hobby rider, or compete at a high level. We look at, among other things:
- Common mouthpieces: two-piece, three-piece, straight, multi-piece
- Different sidepieces: loose rings, fixed rings, cheekpieces
- Bits with leverage effect: for example, pessoa, kimblewick, pelham
- Combination bits, hackamore, and bitless options
We also talk about how the bridle and its settings affect the bit's impact, and how small adjustments can make a big difference for the horse's comfort and the feeling in riding.
The goal is not for you to go home feeling like you know “everything” about bits – but that you should:
-
have a clearer map in the bit jungle
-
feel more confident in how you think about bits for your horse
- Choose the right size of bit
Sprenger on Site – In-depth and Nerdiness
To really delve deep, we collaborate during these events with Sprenger and their fantastic agent Titti Strindemark.
Titti shares Sprenger's philosophy on bits: material, design, balance, and function – and how small details can make a big difference both for the feeling in the hand and for the horse's experience in the mouth. Together we try to weave together:
-
theory
-
practical examples
-
questions and experiences from you riders
The goal is that the bit night should not feel like a traditional lecture where you just sit and listen. The most important thing for us is the dialogue. We encourage everyone to interrupt, ask questions, share their own experiences and thoughts. Often it is in these spontaneous discussions that the greatest insights are born.
Mingling, Shopping, and Exclusive Offers
In addition to the bit education itself, the evening is also an opportunity to just socialize with other horse people and get personal advice. We invite you to:
-
lovely mingling in the store
-
shopping in peace and quiet
-
exclusive offers on bits during the evening
-
quiz with a chance to win great prizes
Many take the opportunity to look at bits they have been considering for a long time, compare different models, feel and squeeze – and of course ask us for help based on their horse's needs.
Thank You – and Warmly Welcome Next Time
