The Pelham has bit rings for attaching two pairs of reins, one pair at the mouthpiece and one pair at the bottom of the shank. This provides an effect similar to riding with a double bridle. Some riders, who find it difficult to handle two pairs of reins, use a converter that attaches to both bit rings, with a rein then attached to the converter. The Pelham Bit Blue has the shortest shank in Bombers' range (55 mm), providing less leverage and pressure on the neck than a bit with a longer shank.

The Pelham Bit Blue comes with a curb chain and hooks. It is made in South Africa and is entirely handmade, offering a unique opportunity to choose how every little detail on the bit should be designed. You can choose the type of mouthpiece you want, the type of rings/shanks, how thick the bit should be, and even if you want different lengths on the right and left sides of the mouthpieces. The mouthpieces are made of sweet iron and brass and are shaped to distribute pressure over a larger area, while the rings/shanks are made of stainless steel.
