Williams bit rings provide the possibility for several different rein attachments. With the rein in the large ring, it functions as a regular snaffle bit with loose rings, but if placed in the lower ring, it creates pressure on the neck. Williams bit rings also help prevent the horse from drifting sideways.

The ported barrel was created to reduce pressure on the tongue with the help of the medium-high port, which creates more space for the tongue. The barrel joint reduces pressure on the bars by distributing the pressure over a larger area and preventing the nutcracker effect that occurs with a regular jointed mouthpiece.
