The Lock Up mouthpiece prevents the nutcracker effect of regular double-jointed bits, which reduces pressure on the bars. Lock Up is therefore milder than a regular double-jointed bit, but it still applies pressure to the tongue and bars when you shorten the reins.
Lippo's bits are developed in consultation with equine dentists. The design of the bit is made to fit the horse's mouth.
The materials have been chosen because they are said to taste good and are perceived positively by most horses. Both iron, copper, sweet iron, and brass are metals that naturally stimulate saliva production, which increases the horse's acceptance of the bit and gives a good feeling in the mouth.
The increased saliva production makes the horse feel soft in the mouth, and as a rider, you will notice that the horse responds better to the reins.
